Hex Lag Screws (DIN 571)

Hex lag screws are heavy duty wood screws with a hexagonal head that can be driven with a socket or wrench for high torque. The coarse thread bites deeply into timber and the sharp point starts easily, making them the standard choice for structural timber connections, decking, fencing, playground equipment and marine timber work.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do lag screws need a pilot hole?

Yes — especially in hardwood. A pilot hole (about 70-75% of the screw diameter in wood) prevents splitting, reduces insertion torque and protects the hex head from damage. In softwood, smaller or no pilots may be acceptable.
